Mirror Lake

Situated off Park Road near its junction with Hwy 9, Mirror Lake (Whatcom County) was originally a small, peat-bottomed lake. Growing demands for water by the City of Bellingham resulted in diversion of water from the Middle Fork Nooksack River into Mirror Lake, which drains into Lake Whatcom (City's water source) via Anderson Creek. The diversion carries glacial silt, which makes Mirror Lake turbid and is covering the original lake bottom with layers of silt.
