Moses Lake Algae

Moses Lake is a shallow, hypereutrophic lake in Grant County, Washington. The lake is situated adjacent to the city of Moses Lake, and drains into Crab Creek, a tributary of the Columbia River. Moses Lake develops nuisance blooms of cyanobacteria during the summer and fall. The goal of this project was to provide information about the relative densities of cyanobacteria and other algae in the lake. The report also includes an appendix with digital images of the algal taxa identified during the project. This research was conducted in the summer of 2017 by Huxley College graduate student, Eric Lawrence, under the supervision of Dr. Robin Matthews and the Institute for Watershed Studies.
